To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program, U.S. Embassy Dhaka and Bangladeshi Fulbright alumni will host a special two-day virtual conference titled “Celebrating 75 Years of Fulbright: U.S.-Bangladesh Together Towards Tomorrow” on October 27-28, 2021. The conference is dedicated to celebrating the positive impact Fulbright Program has had in facilitating knowledge-flows, advancing innovation, and promoting mutual understanding between American and Bangladeshi people. The program's passion for promoting international education exchange not only transformed American public diplomacy but has had a profound impact in shaping U.S.-Bangladesh people-to-people ties. Bangladeshis who have studied, taught, and conducted research at various U.S. colleges and universities continue to serve as champions for democracy, human rights, and inclusion as researchers, teachers, and policymakers.
This interactive two-day conference will entail a variety of panel sessions including experience sharing sessions with U.S. and Bangladeshi Fulbright alumni as well as cultural performances. Bangladeshi and U.S. Fulbright alumni will speak and serve as moderators in addition to other U.S. Department of State exchange alumni based throughout Bangladesh. October 28, the second day of the conference, will serve as Bangladesh’s official Fulbright Day featuring a keynote speech from a notable Bangladeshi Fulbright alumnus, Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya. Ambassador Earl R. Miller will inaugurate the conference on October 27 and Deputy Chief of Mission Helen LaFave deliver closing remarks for the Fulbright Day celebration on October 28. This conference aims not only to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Bangladeshi Fulbright communities, but to encourage other Bangladeshi exchange alumni to consider applying for the Fulbright Program as well.
